I designed the typeface (using Copperplate as the basis), then made them in polystyrene and flash proofing. The bulbs were glued in - they don't work. (BOO!).
The best bit was melting the holes with a red-hot iron bar. (and I found my old desk in the metals workshop at the same time :)
